Alexa Notify in Shelly Smart Control App (Scenes)

Modified on Wed, 29 May at 1:45 PM

The Alexa Notify feature in the Shelly Smart Control app allows users to create scenes that trigger Alexa routines with any Shelly device. This integration bypasses limitations of devices and sensors in Alexa, providing more flexibility in automating tasks and receiving alerts through Alexa-enabled devices.

How It Works:

  1. Setup Scene in Shelly App:

    • Open the Shelly Smart Control app.
    • Navigate to the "Scenes" section.
    • Create a new scene or edit an existing one.
  2. Define Triggers and Actions:

    • Set the conditions (triggers) for the scene. These can include events such as changes in device states (e.g., a light turning on or off), sensor readings, events and etc
    • Add the action to notify Alexa. This involves specifying the relevant device and condition that, once met, will trigger the notification to Alexa.
  3. Configure Alexa:

    • Ensure your Shelly Cloud account is linked with your Alexa account.
    • Enable the relevant Alexa skill for Shelly if not already done.
    • After setting up the scene in Shelly, ask Alexa to discover new devices.
    • You will see a new device named after the scene in Shelly Smart Control. By default, this virtual device will appear as a doorbell due to Alexa’s limitations, but this does not affect its use.
  4. Set Up Alexa Routine:

    • Go to the Alexa app and create a new routine.
    • Click the "+" button to add a new routine.
    • Choose the trigger event: "When this happens" -> "Smart Home" -> Select the name of the virtual device created by Shelly.
    • Define the action Alexa will perform when the routine is triggered.

Important Information:

  • Standard users can create up to 3 notify Alexa scenes.
  • Premium users can create up to 100 notify Alexa scenes.

By leveraging the Alexa Notify feature in the Shelly Smart Control app, users can enhance their home automation experience, improve security, and manage their household more effectively through timely and context-aware Alexa routines.
