Wave Shutter Firmware 12.21 or Lower – Voltage Alarm and Input/Output Change After Update

Overview

Wave Shutter devices with firmware version 12.21 or lower may trigger an alarm related to voltage verification. This alarm is connected to the device voltage check. In some installations, the alarm sensitivity may be too high. Because of this, the device may report an alarm even when the installation is working normally. A firmware update is available to correct this behavior.

This issue affect Wave Shutter devices devices running firmware 12.21 or lower

Issue description

The device may trigger an alarm related to voltage verification (V). This can happen because the voltage alarm sensitivity is too high in some conditions. The device may detect a voltage condition as an alarm even if the real installation condition is not critical.

Solution

To resolve this issue, update the Wave Shutter firmware to the newer version provided by Shelly. The firmware update includes a correction for the voltage alarm sensitivity. After the update, the alarm should no longer trigger incorrectly in the affected scenarios.

How to update the firmware

The firmware can be updated by using an OTA firmware update. The update method depends on the Z-Wave gateway that you use.

Option 1: Update through the gateway

If your gateway supports Z-Wave OTA updates, use the gateway update function to upload and install the firmware file.

Please check your gateway documentation for the exact OTA update steps.

Option 2: Update with PC Controller

If your gateway does not support OTA firmware updates, you will need:

  • A computer

  • PC Controller software

  • A Z-Wave USB key

  • The firmware update file

Use PC Controller and the Z-Wave USB key to perform the OTA update.

Using the PC controller you may perform the OTA following the guides below to do the update in Homey and SmartThings.

Important change after the update

The new firmware also includes a correction related to the inputs and outputs. After the firmware update, the device inputs and outputs may be inverted. This means that the device may react in the opposite way compared to before the update.

For example:

  • The input may control the opposite direction.

  • The output behavior may appear reversed.

  • The open and close direction may need to be corrected.

How to correct inverted inputs and outputs

If the inputs or outputs are inverted after the update, adjust the input/output inversion parameters.

Use the following parameters:

ParameterFunction
Parameter 6Input inversion / SW1 and SW2 swap
Parameter 16Output inversion / O1 and O2 swap

Change these parameters as needed to restore the correct input and output behavior.

Recommended checks after update

After updating the firmware, check the following:

  1. Confirm that the firmware update finished successfully.

  2. Test the shutter open and close commands.

  3. Verify that the wall switch inputs work in the correct direction.

  4. Verify that the output direction is correct.

  5. Adjust Parameter 6 if the inputs are reversed.

  6. Adjust Parameter 16 if the outputs are reversed.

  7. Test the shutter again after changing the parameters.

  8. Check that the voltage alarm no longer appears incorrectly.

Troubleshooting

If the voltage alarm still appears after the update:

  • Make sure the correct firmware file was installed.

  • Confirm that the firmware version changed after the update.

  • Power cycle the device after the update.

  • Check the device wiring.

  • Check the power supply voltage.

  • Check if the motor is connected correctly.

  • Verify the device parameters.

  • Recalibrate the shutter if needed.

If your gateway cannot perform the OTA update, use PC Controller with a Z-Wave USB key.

Summary

Wave Shutter devices with firmware 12.21 or lower may trigger a voltage verification alarm because the alarm sensitivity is too high in some cases. The issue is corrected with a firmware update. After the update, the inputs and outputs may be inverted. This can be corrected by adjusting Parameter 6 and Parameter 16.
