The SmartStart feature works by pre-configuring new Z-Wave devices with all the information they need to join a network. This information includes the network ID, encryption key, and other relevant settings.
To add a new device to the network using SmartStart, the user simply needs to scan a QR code on the device using a compatible smart home hub or mobile app. The hub or app will then automatically detect the device and add it to the device list, once the device is connected to the power it will initiate the pairing process. The device will then be added to the network, without the need for any further configuration.
Any device added with SmartStart is added with the S2 secure encryption.
