Overview
If the LED on a Shelly Wave device is off, this does not always mean that the device is faulty. Some Wave devices turn off the signal LED automatically after a period of time. This is normal behavior and is used to reduce unnecessary LED indication.
However, if the LED does not turn on after pressing the S button, power cycling the device, or checking the power supply, further troubleshooting is needed. This guide explains what to check when the LED on a Wave device is off.
LED behavior on Wave devices
Shelly Wave devices use the multicolored LED to show different device states, such as power, inclusion mode, reset, or alarm states.
For most Wave devices:
The signal LED turn off after around 10 minutes.
Pressing the S button should wake the LED indication.
Power cycling the device should also make the LED show boot behavior again.
For Wave Plug devices:
The signal LED turn off after around 10 seconds.
This is expected behavior.
If the LED remains off after pressing the S button or after a power cycle, continue with the checks below.
Additional LED behavior on Wave Pro devices
Wave Pro devices have more red colored LED indicators than some other Wave devices.
Depending on the Pro model, the device can have:
A dedicated red power LED
One or more output LEDs
The standard multicolored Wave signal LED
Red power LED
The Power red LED on Wave Pro devices is intended to show that the device has power. If this red LED is on, the device is receiving power. If this red LED is off, the device may not be powered correctly, or there may be an issue with the power supply or wiring.
Output LEDs
Wave Pro devices also have output indication red colored LEDs.
Depending on the model, there can be:
One output LED for single-output Pro devices
Two output LEDs for two-output Pro devices
More output indication LEDs depending on the device model
These LEDs show if the related output is active.

If the output LED turns on but the connected load does not work, check the output wiring, load wiring, and load power supply.

Wave Pro devices also have the standard multicolored LED indication used for Z-Wave functions and device states.
This LED is used for functions such as:

Exclusion
Reset indication
Device status
Calibration
Do not confuse the standard signal multicolored LED with the red power LED or the red output LEDs.
1. Verify normal LED signal behavior
Probable cause
Normal LED timeout, LED indication rule, or temporary software state.
What to check
First check if the LED is off because of the normal LED timeout.
Do the following:
Press the S button on the device.
Check if the LED turns on or starts blinking.
If there is no reaction, power cycle the device.
Check if the LED shows boot behavior after power is restored.
For Wave devices, the signal LED may switch off after around 10 minutes. For Wave Plug devices, the signal LED may switch off after around 10 seconds. If the LED turns on after pressing the S button or after a power cycle, the device is most likely working normally.
If the LED remains off, continue with the next steps.
2. Check the power supply
Probable cause
Power supply issue, wiring issue, or missing voltage.
What to check
Verify that the device is properly connected to the correct power source according to the wiring diagram for the specific model.
Depending on the device model, the supported power supply can be:
110–240 V AC
24–48 V DC
12 V DC
Check the following:
The breaker is ON.
The device is wired according to the correct wiring diagram.
Live and neutral are connected correctly, if the device uses AC power.
Positive and negative are connected correctly, if the device uses DC power.
The power source is working.
The terminals are tightened correctly.
There are no loose wires.
The power outlet or power supply is working correctly.
There is no visible damage on the device or wiring.
For mains voltage checks, use a qualified electrician.
3. Additional power check for Wave Pro devices
Probable cause
Power is missing, the device is not supplied correctly, or the Pro power LED is off.
What to check
For Wave Pro devices, first check the red power LED.
Red power LED is ON
If the red power LED is on, the device is receiving power.
In this case, continue checking:
Standard signal LED behavior
Gateway communication
Device status in the controller
Output LEDs
Device parameters
Possible alarm or protection states
Red power LED is OFF
If the red power LED is off, the device may not be powered correctly.
Check:
Supply voltage
L and N wiring
DC polarity, if DC powered
Breaker or fuse
Power terminals
Power supply rating
Wiring diagram
Loose or damaged wires

4. Check output LEDs on Wave Pro devices
Probable cause
Output state issue, wiring issue, load issue, or configuration issue.
What to check
Wave Pro devices have LED indication for outputs. When an output is activated, the related output LED should show that the output is active.
Check this behavior:
Turn the output ON from the gateway.
Check if the related output LED turns on.
Turn the output OFF from the gateway.
Check if the related output LED turns off.
Repeat the same test using the local input, if connected.

5. Check device status in the gateway
Probable cause
Gateway communication issue or device not reachable.
What to check
Open the Z-Wave gateway and check if the device is reachable.
In Home Assistant or Z-Wave JS UI, check:
Node status
Last communication time
Device interview status
Ping result
Error messages
Alarm notifications
Protection states
If the device is shown as Dead or Unavailable, check signal strength, power supply, and routing. If the device is powered but not reachable, try a power cycle and then ping the device again.
6. Perform a remote device reboot
Probable cause
Temporary software state or communication issue.
What to check
If the device is still reachable from the gateway, try to reboot it remotely. Use the remote reboot parameter or command, if available for the device. Set the remote reboot parameter to the reboot value according to the device documentation.
After the reboot:
Wait for the device to start again.
Check the LED behavior.
Check if the device is reachable in the gateway.
Test the local input and outputs.
If the LED starts working again after reboot, the issue may have been temporary.
7. Power-cycle the device
Probable cause
Temporary device state.
What to check
If remote reboot is not possible, power-cycle the device.
Steps:
Turn off the breaker or disconnect the power supply.
Wait at least 30 seconds.
Restore power.
Check the LED behavior.
Check the gateway status.
Test the device again.
For Wave Pro devices, check if the red power LED turns on after power is restored.
8. Reset to factory settings
Probable cause
Corrupted configuration or incorrect settings.
What to check
If the device still does not respond correctly and the LED remains off, perform a factory reset only if needed.
A factory reset will remove:
Changed device parameters
Associations
Gateway connection
Node ID
Routing information
Calibration data, if supported
Energy data, if supported
After the reset, include the device again in the gateway and check the LED behavior. Use factory reset only after checking power supply, wiring, gateway communication, and LED behavior.
9. When to contact technical support
When you have an unidentified issue or possible hardware failure. Contact support if the issue remains after all checks.

Z-Wave controller type
Power supply type
Wiring diagram or photo, if safe to provide
Whether the standard signal LED is off
